Sam Thomas

Sam Thomas (1991) started playing the trombone at age ten, and soon was playing trombone in several classical youth orchestras. He decided to be serious about playing the trombone by starting jazz lessons with Louk Boudesteijn in 2011. He played in the Festival Youth Orchestra led by Johan Plomp, winning the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours in 2011. In 2012, Sam started studying jazz trombone at Codarts Rotterdam.

Sam was nominated for the prestigious Erasmus Jazz Prize in 2014. He played in Het Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest conducted by Eric Vloeimans at several jazz festivals and venues, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, De Vrienden van Amstel Live in Ahoy and on dutch radio and television, including popular shows De Wereld Draait Door and Holland’s Got Talent.


Sam joined Hornsection Horns on Fire in 2013.
